Mr.Maheshappa-Vice Chancelor, VTU
- He was of the opinion that “it is academia’s responsibility to train students in fundamentals, technical and communication skills so that they can be made employable for the industries”
- He suggested that the industry need to seriously think of outsourcing the R & D work to colleges and the universities and also needs to plan industry centric training on campus as this will lead to closer interactions between academia and industry
- He stressed on knowledge sharing to understand the changing dynamics in industries as this will facilitate colleges to speed up industry specific skill training
- He felt that business houses need to actively be involved in the funding of universities in their progressive activities like in other countries which is currently in India is majorly government dependent
- He highlighted on the achievement of the students of VTU who developed a MINI SATELLITE with help from ISRO
- He gave insights into emerging opportunities globally in aerospace, automobile, marine, agricultural equipments, infrastructure that demands technocrats with diverged engineering knowledge and suggested the academia to closely interact with these industries to benefit technologically as well as commercially
- He concluded by stressing that there is a great need for both Industry and academia to come together to interact and build synergies to address complementary issues by remaining in their respective domains and also appealed to the industry to have confidence in academia and initiate joint collaborations. He invited industries to VTU to collaborate for various initiatives.
