Leveraging Technology in Learning - Acquiring Skills - Role of Assessments

Dr. K. Balaveera Reddy ( Former Vice Chancellor, VTU) voiced his opinion that:
- There is a threat of foreign universities – colleges will need to be world class by adopting technology in imparting education.
- Student centric education is important
- Innovation centers need to be created on campus
- Placement cell to be recast as Industry interface cell for broader and continuous interaction.
Other panelists noted that:
- Integrated talent management is key
- Skill focus needs to cover Technical – Domain – Language and Soft/Smart skills
- Domain skills need to be impacted to academics
- Competency modeling for domains is useful to build skill inventories
- Relevance of content is important – teacher should focus on relevance of content to learner
- Interaction quality is as important as assessment (motivate learner)
- Skills should also include cognitive skills in addition to technical, functional, behavioral and soft.
