Mr. S.P.K. Naidu – IAS (Retd) - Spl. Chief Sec. to A.P.Govt. in his welcome address highlighted on
- 3% of GDP is only spent on education.
- India ranks 140 on education and 132 on human development index.
- By 2026, 2/3rds of workforce would be old.
- Need to address Education-Employability-Employment seamlessly.
- 5 lakhs graduates pass out – industry requires 3 lakhs – gets 2 lakhs – rest are unemployed / unemployable.
- Korea has maximum budget for education – highly educated workforce
- Developed world – allows for people to move between Industry – Academic – Government.
He was of the opinion that in India, Education is neither a central nor a state subject rather it is a concurrent subject which often causes confusion.
He also said overseas more students go to humanities and sciences - In India students pursue only engineering, medicine etc.
Here in India we have new age illiterate's - people who are not willing to learn - unlearn - relearn.
