Director, IIIT - Bangalore

No. of job requirements is substantial at about 80000+ jobs. Last year’s no. was around 1.5 Lac jobs. There is no reason for students to panic.
  • Loyally will be rewarded.
  • Forge long term college-company partnerships
  • Get out of the salary game
Students better look for the best match. Research into individual capabilities and also research the recruiting companies and find out which companies the student is best suited for.

Do not base employment decisions purely on salary.

This is the time for companies to value employee loyalty and employees to demonstrate loyalty towards the company.

Students better ask for “Money to pocket” and stop asking for “CTC”.

Most of the components in CTC are over and above basic salary and in many cases the employee may never realize it.

Employee value cannot be measured only by salary.

Measuring people by salary is as bad as measuring husbands by dowry.

It would help colleges to partner with companies to supply HR on a regular basis.

It takes about 6-12 months for freshers to be productive and billable

Newer skills sought

What was good in yesteryears e.g., ABAP is not sufficient. Fresher may skill themselves in emerging technologies/tools/areas: like Netweaver, Business Process Management – Pega and Training in niche skills would be an advantage for students.

Proficiency in foreign languages (French/German/Italian, etc.) will be a clear advantage.

Apart from employment through campus recruitment, students may take up innovative assignments in many other areas like: agriculture, farming, etc.

Incentive oriented Industry Academia Association is needed

If we don’t enhance employability, industry will be chasing the limited talent and this limited talent will out-price us.

Industries and Institutes to work to gether and bring students back to Internship programmer in industry to up skill students to prepare them for the big busy season.

Students are mostly instructor driven. Industry wants them to be more creative.

Skills sought by the industry: Competency, Creativity, and confidence.

Proposed idea of beginning school to skill students on these skills.

Students to learn to listen, comprehend and come up with creative ideas

Invest on EQ rather than IQ. Channelize IQ and convert into EQ. That will make a difference in the market place

Use the time a recession to train students and enhance their ability to take up higher order jobs.

Apart from IT services, students may explore employment opportunities in finance, research, manufacturing, agriculture, etc.
